Down the Home Stretch!

October 28, 2021 Molly Wassmuth

The 2021 election is just a few days away. Many of you may have already cast your ballot through early voting. Regardless, I know that this weekend I will still be knocking on doors, meeting new neighbors, and hearing from interested voters. If there’s anything my new running hobby has taught me, it’s to power through that finish line.

Over the last couple of months I have been lucky to hear from a number of Grandview residents and learn more about what they think about our schools and our community. We have a truly invested community filled with people willing to participate and who want what is best for our schools and our students.

The door-to-door canvassing has been particularly eye-opening. I am so thankful for those who have answered their doors, shared their insights, and discussed what they feel are the most pressing issues with the schools.  Overwhelmingly I have people express:

  • Concern on how the schools will continue to meet our students academic needs;

  • worry about the emotional and mental of our students, especial regarding peer-to-peer interactions, bullying, and return to class interactions following a year of remote learning; and

  • the desire for open communication between the school board and the community.

I do value this honest and open dialogue. I have learned a lot during my first term on the board; both about the issues in the schools and how we go about our business. To that point, this week Grandview resident Mr. John Wagner posted on his local blog some thought-raising issues. I was happy to respond to his questions.  And while we may not agree about every decision - or how those decisions are made- I do think we agree that we have the best interest of the schools and the students at heart.  You can read his blog here.

Going into this last weekend, I want to once again state that I am always willing to listen to others to learn more about their passions and concerns. Grandview is a caring and involved community.  We can work together to solve these issues and make sure everyone feels like their voice is heard.

See you at the ballot box!
